White-faced Ibis in
breeding plumage

I was on my way to photograph burrowing owls and came across a flock of Ibis - taking advantage of a recently flooded field. My plans quickly changed to spend time photographing these stunning birds - their iridescent wings gleaming in the morning sun. Two days later, the water and the birds were gone. I love being surprised by these chance encounters whenever I am out exploring. Taken northwest of Tucson, Arizona.
